The Breeding Program

After several years of experience in the cat fancy we have decided to dedicate a page on our site to introduce our breeding program.

We have discovered that cat pictures and pedigrees do not always reveal in depth where a breeding program is headed - and how the goals of the program find their sources in the pedigrees. We hope this page will help to clarify these things.

Our goals

BigPurrs Persians is a Bi-color and white Cattery, meaning that we strive to produce White Persians and Bi-color Persians who meet the breed standard to its best.  We do not use Himalayens, Exotics or CPCs (Color Point Carriers) either in our breeding program or our pedigrees.

We also try to steer away from the Agouti tabby gene and the Inhibitor gene in the program - even though these may appear in some of the pedigrees since leading lines in our pedigrees have used these genes/colors.

In the future we wish to include more dilute cats in our program in order to also produce dilute High-white Bi-colors along with Whites carrying these genes.

Cats we bred back to

In every breeder's program and pedigrees there are several cats they consider a mark of excellence and which they "breed back to". This means these cats may appear in the pedigree 2 or even more times due to inbreeding or line-breeding. This is in order to produce cats that are as consistent as possible to the traits of these cats.

In our pedigrees there are two cats I bred back to -
SugarSpun It's How You Love of BigPurrs (AKA Cameron) and Finchfield Hey Presto! Of Zaladin.
Sadly, both of these cats are no longer with us. Here are their pictures:
Retired cats and other significant donations

Some cats in our program have now retired and are now happy spoiled pets - either with us or with our friends - and yet have made a significant contribution to our current program. Here are their pictures:

We pride in our cats' very full smooth roll out doming, huge eyes that are far apart which creates a sweet open expression, along with a prominent chin and open nostrils.

We hope that this makes our pedigrees and program a bit clearer to understand.
We take a great deal of time to study our pedigrees so if you have any questions or other information you need - feel free to contact and ask.
Other cats in our pedigrees have been placed with other breeders and are still breeding. Here are their pictures:
