On 23.07.2006 a CACIB show of Bulgaria. On July 22th 2006 Yossie Guy, his Sheltie dog - "Niki" and myself took an El-Al flight which lasted 2 and a half hours to Sofia- Bulgaria's capital. There, around midnight we rented our car and began our journey towards the village "Kamchiya" where the shows took place. After a long night of no stopping and no sleep, we finally arrived at 07:45 at the show ground. To our great surprise we saw no building or any exhibition hall whatsoever. Soon we understood that the show would start at 17:00 and it takes place no less than in the open parking area of the camping! So, after a little nap we returned to the parking area ready and excited at 17:00. We were surprised to see that the show rings were not ready yet... and one of the crew was drilling holes in the ground.. to place some poles in! The show began at 18:30 after long speeches. We planed to phone Israel when the show ends and at 24:30 we called my mom. "Hi, mom!! We won with Niki BOB and Bulgarian Championship" The Best In Show ceremony started at 01:00 a.m. while the main ring was lit by cars lights. Later on we understood that it was the first show in Bulgaria that 450 dogs participated in from 19 different countries !! The following day we got ready for the second show. It was due to begin at 17:00 but started at 18:00 and carried well into the late night!Well, doesn't a dog show normally end at 02:30 in the morning?? The Macedonia CAC show began with a light drizzle which lasted barely 15 minutes but left the ground wet for the whole day. Later on it was sunny and humid yet on today's show there were 6 judges as opposed to 4 judges on the other days - so we finished at 24:00!The judges spoke and wrote the reports in Bulgarian and luckily I met 2 foreign judges who spoke English to me. We were the only Israelis in the Shows! The all around atmosphere in the show ring was warm, sympathetic and friendly. We made friends with a nice Romanian couple who arrived with a pair of beautiful Afghan Hounds, another Bulgarian women with an Afghan, a French breeder with three adorable Wolfhounds, an elderly Dutch breeder with his wife and incredibly beautiful well trained Dalmatian dogs. I participated in 3 Junior Handling Shows where I took twice the third place. In all 4 Junior Handling competitions won a polish girl with her Irish Setter which both made an excellent team in movement and show. Two more special shows took place. One for children under the age of 10 years old where a sweet 5 years old won with her West Highland White Terrier, and the second was " Senior Handling" for people over 18 years. The last one was definitely the fun-show of the evening! Once the four "older" handlers were asked to switch dogs, but the Standard white Poodle and the Chiwawa both began to run in the opposite direction while the Amstaff was trying to mate the whippet female to the loud laughter of the audience! In this week's show one could win 4 championships -providing your dog is a Champion already! Bulgarian Champ. Macedonian Champ. Balkan Champ. as well as Grand Champion (only to the dog which already won 3 Champions). The Certificates were issued on the spot for the amount of 20-40 Euro each! We also saw some interesting breeds that were not FCI members such as: American Bulldog, Bulgarian Sheperd dog and Bulgarian hunting dog. In the last day the Grand Champion took place which was sort of a party for all the new Champions. There were 10 groups and each group winner won a small Television!!
